OUTDOOR MATCHES 2024

Our third match of the season was to be played on Saturday 6th July against our sister organisation SADLBA at St Albans BC. Sadly it was not to be because torrential rain overnight and continuing persistent rain during the morning meant the match was cancelled before a wood was bowled. Both teams turned up ready to play but by mid morning it was clear that the rain was not going to ease up.

Our thanks must go to Michael Woodhams, our Secretary, for leading the proceedings, and also to St Albans BC. Despite the heavy, rain car parking was being supervised, the rink furniture was all set out and the Ladies had tea coffee and biscuits ready and waiting. We could not have asked for a better welcome, so thank you, to all in the St Albans Club.

The second match in the series was held at Shire Park to celebrate their 75th Anniversary on Saturday 8th June, at 2.30 pm. It was a lovely sunny day and played in a fun and friendly way. A lovely afternoon. You can read the Match Report here: Result Sheet SADBA v Shire Park 75th 8 June 2024.

The first of our 3 Outdoor matches this season was help on Saturday 11th May at Townsend Bowls Club. We had a superb afternoon of bowling in excellent weather and, with the help of additional Townsend members, played on all 6 rinks. It was a good win for the District. President's Welcome Message

This year, for the first time in our history, we do not have a President in post so matches and other functions during the year will each be led by one of our Officers. We do, however, have a Deputy President, Jan Southwell, who was our President in 2018. Jan is unable to fulfil full Presidential duties this year but looks forward to being our President in 2025.

Despite the fact that we have few new faces wanting to step forward to lead SADBA into the future, we have an exciting and promising year ahead, both outdoors and indoors. As usual our Inter-Club League matches are fully subscribed and our Competition entries are up once again reflecting the keen interest in the association and competitive bowling.

With a Deputy President in place our Bob Vise final will be at Jan’s own Club, Potters Bar, on August Bank Holiday Monday. Our Finals Day will once again be at Harpenden Bowls Club which proved to be an outstanding venue in 2023 with excellent facilities and support from the Club.
