STROFTON TROPHY CHARITY GALA 2022

CHARITY GALA – 6th September 2022

Once again some 24 mixed triples teams from the District Clubs met to play in the Annual Charity Gala for the coverted Strofton Trophy, this year held at North Mymms.

The day started off well in dry weather but later  was punctuated with a few heavy showers, but this not dampen spirits.  Great sportsmanship and bowling on the day gave a close result with the honours going to John Bell, Jackie Bell and Barry Woodham team (from Batchwood) (pictured below) with 52 points, with two Hatfield teams close behind led by Richard Lush (50) and Peter Crouch (48).  A full list of the results is here: SADBA GALA 2022 Final Positions.

Well done to all and a special thank you to the generosity of the bowlers and visitors.  From the spider, cakes sales, doantions and the raflfle some £750 was raised for the President’s Charity Dementia UK. A great result.

FINALS DAY 2022 – PICTURES

SADBA Finals this year were held in the week commencing 29 August to 3rd September.  There were three Finals Sessions:  The Bob Vise Trophy (29th August), the Jones Cup (2nd September) and all other Competitions and Triples League (on 3rd September).

FINALS WEEK 2022 – BOB VISE TROPHY

FINALS WEEK – BOB VISE TROPHY

On Monday 29th August 2022 we had the first of our three Finals Days for 2022 with Townsend playing Welwyn & District in the morning for the Bob Vise Trophy Final.

North Mymms BC Members did a great job getting everything ready despite having no Electricity for most of the day before!

Well done to all of them.

We had a great morning of Bowls on all four rinks of Singles, Pairs, Triples & Fours. Ignoring the final scores, there was a fine display of good quality bowling from two very sporting and friendly teams. There was a good crowd of supporters enjoying the early sun and the fine bowling.

Winners today were Welwyn & District.    WELL DONE.    Runners-Up were Townsend who put up a gallant resistance all morning.  Photographs (see post above), courtesy of Clyde Martindill of Townsend.

Well done to the Marker Peter Stokes, Umpire Brian Burfoot, Catering Officer Karen King and all the team at North Mymms.   They have all set a very high standard for our remaining two Finals events.  These are:-

  • Friday 2nd September (at 5. 30 pm) for the Jones Cup Final,  and
  • Saturday 3rd September from 9.00.a.m.onwards for the rest of our Finals.

STROFTON SHIELD CHARITY GALA 2021:  PICTURES

The Annual Charity Gala  to support the Presidents Charity, Dementia UK, was held at North Mymms on 9th September.  It as an excellent day of fun and excitement before the winners “The 3 Amigos”,   Mick Brennan, Brian Vince and Barry Woodman took the trophy for Potters Bar.  This is the second time Potters Bar have won this competition.
